A man in Quebec recently went viral after posting a video complaining about racism in Canada. In the clip, he claims he was stopped by police in Mercier and uses the moment to say that racism still exists in the country. However, many people quickly noticed that he’s wrongly putting Quebec and Canada in the same category.

The reality is simple: Quebec is not Canada. It has its own government, its own systems, and its own problems. Instead of addressing the issues that actually exist in Quebec — the slow bureaucracy, the language politics, and the way things are run in the province — this man chose to blame the rest of Canada.

That makes no sense. If he truly feels held back or mistreated, the logical move would be to leave Quebec and go to another province where things might actually be better for him. Instead, he stays in Quebec, complains about “Canada,” and continues speaking only French while expecting better opportunities.

At some point, it stops being about racism and starts looking like someone who refuses to adapt or put in the effort to improve his situation. Quebec has its own issues, and people should stop using it to represent the entire country. If you don’t like how things work in the province, leave.

Blaming Canada while staying in Quebec and refusing to adapt just makes the argument look weak.
